Oh, poor Illya, I can well imagine that he was overwhelmed the first time! And so many new foods to try. Once he got over his culture shock, I imagine he became a very proficient shopper!
My Albanian friend described something very similar when she first arrived in the States. Without so much attendant paranoia though.
This was linked to the avocado questions of course. Another friend of mine read 'avocado pear', bought one for the first time and bit in to it. Boy was she surprised! I had thought about using that at some point but it doesn't really work if you don't call them 'avocado pears' in the States. Oh well...
I suspected as much (I.e. the avocado pears) when reading this. We go to supermarkets all over the globe and I am always amazed at the variety that any large grocery store here has over other countries. So, so glad I don't have to make those choices!
