Awwww I love Sugar Gliders. When I was little, they used to have them at the pet stores and I used to beg my mom for one. (It never happened and they don't have them anymore. I'm not sure if they were made illegal or what)
So they're in the wild in Australia? That's so cool!
Yep, sugar gliders are Australian natives. :-) I think the Aussie goivernment and the US government are cracking down on ownership of them though. As far as I know it is completely illegal to won or handle them here in Australia unless oyu are liscensed by parks & wildlife.
When I lived in Arizona, the vet I worked with was one of the only one in the state who could treat sugar gliders... but none ever came in whilst I worked there. :-( But oh boy- I am making up for it now!
One thing: sugar gliders aren't nice animals- they are foul tempered and have a very nasty bite, and they make the scariest growling hissing spitting noise! I'll try to post more about that later; had an adventure with the glider last night that made me a bit apprehensive of them now. :-(
