I don't hate blind people, but...

I'm not sure this guy understands the movie?

The National Federation of the Blind is boycotting the movie "Blindness":

"The National Federation of the Blind condemns and deplores this film, which will do substantial harm to the blind of America and the world. Blind people in this film are portrayed as incompetent, filthy, vicious, and depraved. They ( Read more... )

I think it is kind of ironic that blind people are boycotting a movie that they can't watch in the first place. The other irony is that the movie that they do boycott is one about blind people.

Just kind of a funny irony, I think.

That's the part I really don't get about this whole uproar...it's not like we're meant to believe that these people were always blind in this film and from what I've seen their reaction/actions are obviously influenced by their panic, not to mention their fear and outrage that they are being afflicted in this way as a group. It's all a little silly if you ask me because it's pretty clear that the movie's intent has absolutely nothing to do with being insulting to actual people who are blind.

Let's go see this movie!

Also, I LOL-ed at the "some people on this f-list" comment.

You're right, this guy's completely missed the point. The main group of people in the movie were rounded up and put into a sanitarium when the epidemic first started, in hopes of containing it. Since it was contagious, anyone who could see kept the hell away and left them to fend for themselves. The bathrooms don't work, and when food stops being delivered, a gang holds the rations for ransom. THAT'S where the vicious and depraved part comes in. But he was vicious and depraved before he went blind.

Some people are overly sensitive about stuff. I didn't start thinking blind people would rape me or poop on the floor after reading this book.

See the movie. Or better yet, read the book. It's amazing. Or BEST yet, you and Morgan should come to Michigan to see the movie! And then stay and live here! :D

If only Michigan was one of our bordering states...we could be there in a jiffy!
