I've never been eligible.....but I would say eat well beforehand, high carb, high sugar, high energy. After you donate, I hear they give you a juice and a cookie.....so fooding up beforehand seems right to me.....though I've never done.
Go for it! Make sure to drink LOTS of water 12-24 hours beforehand (it helps the blood flow) and afterwards eat a meal and take it easy. (Read a book, watch a movie, something where you can lie down if you need to. No going to classes or taking walks. If you feel dizzy, lie down and prop your feet up for at least 15 minutes.) Passing out isn't fun, but I think it's worth trying to donate at least once if you're doing something to help save people's lives.
