Interesting post! I'm afraid it's not much different in the US, for instance. Except that our teachers have to survive with a ridiculous salary : (

The US has the same problems. The structure of school as a prison of sorts is present everywhere. School as punishment can be seen in the fact that physical abuse was condoned and sometimes recommended as the only way a teacher could impose his or her authority (the same happening in Brazil).

A student comes to school and, in their view, they loose their places in society and become second class citizens. They are treated as guilty before committing any crime, they are viewed as less important than any faculty member, their word is not taken at face value and - the worst of all - whenever they have to be punished, the form used is by corrupting knowledge.

The student starts HATING reading and writing because his associations with it all are always so damn negative.
