Thanks. I do like Angelus and Darla together. And Dru. It's canon that Angel misses the clarity of being evil. We know how much guilt he carries around (with soul) because of the things he did when evil. He must be weary of the weight of it.
I still think that one of the opportunities that the show missed was in not keeping Kate as a character. There are a number of different directions that could have gone in, and all of them would have been good.
It was a shock that he locked those lawyers in the wine cellar (people cellar, oh Darla) but I remember shouting "Yeah! Take that!" when it first aired. Why were people surprised that he did that, after being pushed and pushed and pushed by W&H am totally with you on this Ares.
About Redefinition, I totally agree about that image of Angel. He`s totally scary in this episode. Kind of reminds us that plenty of people with souls do bad things, and it`s not just the soul having that makes Angel a champion.
I can't help but wonder how Buffy would feel is she knew that Angel agreed to give his life for Darla. the rerun of this was on just the other day and I was thinking the same thing. However I don`t think it was about his or Angelus love for her, it was tied into need to save her, and about redemption.
I very much loved the second season for story arcs Darla's. Angel, sooner or later, for go on, just had to "close" its centennial history with Darla, and that's what he did. It was a necessary thing. Every interaction he had with Darla (IMO) was a confirmation that he has never loved any other, as he loved Buffy. His heroic act (give his life for Darla) was also a desperate attempt to free of she, and also save himself, and was one of the most "high" heroism of Angel
Yeah. And it *was* perfect, Darla. - It was perfect despair. And you were the reason. You've always been the reason. You were the thing that made me what I am, and I thought if I could save you, I'd somehow save myself, but... but I was wrong. And when I failed... When I *failed*, you saved me. And I have to thank you for that. There is nothing I can do for you now, Darla. I can't even hate you.
