When is it ever appropriate to say "Everybody knows"? What is one thing everybody knows?

According to Leonard Cohen... batmanmsd September 14 2005, 14:53:53 UTC
Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That's how it goes
Everybody knows...

I was about to say everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe help to make the season bright.

Then I thought of the turkey population. The turkey population certainly doesn't know that.

The turkey population is in fact so dumb it can drown by staring up into the rain.

So, given the turkey factor, the proper answer is nothing.

Everybody knows if they get up in the air, they will fall down. They know this even if they can't express it. And I'm talking about humans here, no turkeys or other birds. Although, if you ever watched WKRP in Cincinnati, you know damn well that turkeys can't fly.
