We had a two hour delay yesterday after we had a few inches of snow followed by sleet and icy rain overnight. It didn't get super cold last night, just into the mid twenties, but that rain / sleet mix ( Read more... )

Ice is the pits. I didn't know you had weather that bad in your part of the country.

Oh, yes, we can get some nasty weather here at times, but it does tend to be more ice than lots of snow in my particular corner of the state. We do get some every year and every few years we get a couple of big storms and we'll get a foot or two - but nothing like yours! Up north of here they can get snow like you do... they've had terrible snow the last few years.

It doesn't take much ice at all for roads to turn treacherous. Enjoy your surprise day at home! (I wouldn't do housework, either!)

The scariest drives I've ever had are either icy or foggy... sometimes both! It didn't get much above freezing today so I wouldn't be surprised if we have a two hour delay in the morning - I like those since we don't have to make those up! :) We do have to make this day up at the end of the year sometime.

That is definitely the drawback to snow days, making them up later. Our district builds into the calendar two days, but we always end up with more.
