This is a beginner sewing question, and I thought the answer worth posting ( Read more... )

Instead of tails at the beginning, Mom taught me to back stitch a few stitches at the beginning and end of any seam to anchor it down. Seems to work well for me, though it's a bit of a pain if you have to rip something out.

Oh yes- I meant when you pull the finished seam out of the machine. I have seen many a beginner snip the threads too close to the needle and it unthreads as you start the next seam.

Yeah, I am thinking old concert tshirts. Front on the front and the tour dates on the back of the quilt- fabooo! I doubt though that I have more then 2-3 of the old shirts anymore though.

In sorting out the garage, I discovered that I own something like 50 t-shirts that I haven't worn in ages - concert Ts, RenFest shirts, gaming shirts, library summer reading program shirts, etc, most of which I can't imagine wearing again, except possibly to sleep in - sleeping under them would make a nice compromise, I think.
