This week I'm working through the first round of copyedits on my novel. Oh em gee.
Thing is, I've waited half my life - at least - for this experience. "My first novel arrives back from the copyeditor" is for me, in the Girlish Dreams stakes, somewhat akin to "man of my dreams goes down on one knee and produces polished rock".

Meanwhile, in another part of the forest, I have a friend about to start a PhD in an aspect of African studies (not sure what discipline, precisely, but she's going to be working on intersectional questions to do with AIDS and the environment, as far as I remember). Would it be OK to introduce her to you?

I think I consciously try to avoid underwhelm in these situations. Not sure if it makes a difference. But this whole process has for me been characterised by unabashed sparkly delight, so, you know, I'm not complaining.
