Choir Tour 2008

Feb 24, 2008 00:35

So, this past week we've been on choir tour which has been SUPER fun. We did several different home-stays and they were all totally unique and wonderful.

I'll give a semi-brief rundown... but I won't make any promises about the brevity.

Saturday night, we sang in Gastonia. Left in the afternoon, went there, ate, sang our set and came back to Wingate before setting out Sunday morning. [so far, so brief =D]

Sunday morning we set out early for a concert in Rock Hill, SC... We sang at Oakland Baptist as part of the morning service. Did four of our set as like.. an anthem, I guess. From there we drove to Greenville, SC and did a concert that evening at Berea First Baptist. Our homestay that night was WONDERFUL! Cheryl had a beautiful house, and kept NINE girls. Kristy, Leslie, Sarah, Carly, Ashley, Kayla, Brittany, Laura, and me. She had four children who are all grown and married now, and her husband passed away recently. She fixed us all kinds of treats that were delicious, and we had a great night.

The next morning we set off early for Spartanburg, SC where we sang two concerts at Dorman High School, first on the Freshman Campus and then on the Main Campus... both went very well, especially the one on the main campus. They were able to sing some for us, and we got to collaborate and connect with them for a while. Very fun day overall. We left from there for Linburn, GA and Stone Mountain, where we performed at Smoke Rise Baptist. Another great concert, and another great home stay. Laura and I were with Jill, who has two children, but we didn't meet her son. That was fun too, we played Wii for a while and I just sat and talked with her when Laura went to talk on the phone.

The next morning we left for Auburn, AL to spend the day at Auburn University. It was a good day, we worked with their choir in the mid-afternoon. They are awesome, and they were very impressed with us as well. We also got to hear their SHOW CHOIR.... very cool. We did a concert that night at Providence Baptist in Opelika, AL which was very close by and a few of the Auburn students came to the concert. That night was my favorite homestay. It was a night spent in a dreamland. Marcia, Laura, and I stayed with Jim and Bonnie Henderson, and the three of us were in their cottage. This place was better than a fairytale. Seriously. Jim is in construction and designed the cottage himself and it is shaped like a star. I am completely in love with it, just thinking about it. I could stay there forever. I really enjoyed all the homestays but I think this house was my favorite.

Wednesday morning, we left for a long drive to Hilton Head, SC and had our free night. FUN. Long day on the bus, very dull, but that night Marcia, Sarah Lev, Laura, Alex M, Peter Haley, and I all went out to dinner. Crazy night, the waiter may or may not have asked for IDs for over 21-ness.... either way, the group had a fun night, there are some great pictures of us girls standing on the bar. =] That night we went to the beach to watch the lunar eclipse, it was AWESOME.

Thursday morning was a lazy morning, but I did get up and go walk on the beach, picked up a few shells. We left for one last concert in Columbia, SC at First Baptist Church. We saw their sanctuary which seats 3500, and we sang in the chapel, which seats 900. The audience sat 14 [or depending on how you look at it, even less] and the concert actually went really well. We got home that night to a rainy Wingate, but all in all it was a great trip.

More details to come, perhaps. For now, I'm kinda tired.

Cory just called me, so tired is probably not gonna be an option. But he said he's taking a break so maybe it won't be too long.
