An intelligent waste of time

Reading Malcolm Gladwell threw me for a loop.  An entire book of very convincing essays, making all sorts of conclusions based on statistical correlations, that basically said that being born at the right time, to the right background, and being just-smart-enough and exceptionally passionate and hard-working within your chosen field is the way to ( Read more... )

1. IQ is bull. Pay it no heed.
2. You aren't old enough to be an expert at anything yet. The 10,000 hours thing is like... when you've been employed full-time in a certain field for the past 10 years, and you hit that milestone and you FINALLY know what the hell you're doing. There was just a post on Lifehacker today about this.
3. Eating and sleeping are good things. Brita filters are also good things.
4. YAY GERMAN

Kind of wound up skimming bits of that, sorry. I need to go to bed and recover some attention span. Remind me to come back and comment on the rest later.

Man, I can't tackle the entirety of this essay (yes, it is an essay) so I'll focus on the points that shine the brightest:

I wish we lived closer to each other so that we could whip each other into motivation.

As far as attention in class goes, I find that my tendency to be distracted is merely a tendency. I'm used to diverting my attention after a short period, even when I'm otherwise not sleepy or troubled. This kinda relates to how I have a tendency to want to go back to sleep, even when I'm actually feeling fairly alert. I think that it's a habit, and that you can whittle away at it little by little. I find that active note-taking helps; don't ever stop writing, and if you do then start rereading your notes. Keep yourself focused and engaged.

Hihi~ Mel here =P

First of all, I missed you today!! >__If you want, we can meet up to do hw/study together. I know having a buddy makes me more likely to get things done. Also, in class, if I see you getting distracted I can poke you or something. If you want. =x I think whenever I space out I tend to daydream about whatever random thought happens to pop into my head. So maybe I might need poking too ( ... )

Relaxxxxxx :]

You dont have to be perfect in every way, if you tell yourself that its just gonna bother you and piss you off every day. Just let life happen man. Mom was like "Stephanie if you go to college in NYC you can live at home, it's not so bad, we leave Jen alone!" ROFLROFLROFLROFL.
