Russian Circles, The Velvet Teen, (P.O.S), Minus the Bear
NOVEMBER 5TH, 2006
THE CLUBHOUSE MUSIC VENUE
TEMPE, ARIZONA
Same time, same place. Getting there early is fun though, because you can just sit and talk about random stuff. Maybe meet new people.
I had all of my usual things with me - my phone, wallet, ticket, purse obviously and my camera. Although, the camera I later realized proved to be useless because the batteries had run out. It was from that day forward that I told myself "ALWAYS CHANGE YOUR CAMERA BATTERIES BEFORE SHOWS".
----
They let us in on time as usual. It seemed like The Club House was running smoother than usual.
This time, Allison and I took our post on what was to be Dave's side. On the left side of the stage in the front.
While we were standing by the stage waiting for the show to start, Allison went to go get merch. She got a Minus the Bear foam paw that they brought back from when they first started touring back in 2002 or so, a Minus the Bear wallet and shirt. I never seem to have money anymore, so I didn't get anything. My friend Rachel had found me and we talked for a little but before she went back to the bar. I also saw another girl from school who I knew. Her name was Brooklyn.
The lights dimmed and the show started at around 7:30PM. Russian Circles were the first band up.
Sadly, since my camera was dead and all, I wasn't able to get any photos of the show. I used my cell camera, but it's horrible quality due to the activity and lighting.

They had a very very short set since all of their songs are long. They were really good though. I liked them a lot. They were hard (to the point were it almost made me deaf and that NEVER happens at shows) and louddddd. They reminded me of These Arms Are Snakes, but the interesting thing about them is that they were an instrumental band. No lyrics.
Russian Circles then left the stage and it was The Velvet Teen's turn.

They were so fun live. Judah sang into this megaphone that reminded me of Shinjuku Gewalt a lot. "Tokyoto" was an amazing song to hear though. Songs with electronic beats are always fun to hear. The Velvet Teen seemed to kind of fly by though. I don't remember much of anything from it, which is really sad.
P.O.S was up next though.
The singer that I know and knew nothing about and still don't. I don't remember -ANY- of his songs, nor do I really care. I'm not horribly into rap, and to have an artist like P.O.S playing at a Minus the Bear concert was funny anyway.
What I do remember though was that he was hilarious. He challenged people to thumb wrestling and called Minus the Bear a "pocket full of fags". Hahaha.
His set seemed to last forever. Maybe because I wasn't familiar with anything. It was alright I suppose though. Because next was Minus the Bear.

THEY PLAYED "PONY UP!". How amazing is that. They never play that song, but they did this time! "Knights" was also amazing. It's a new song, off of their soon to be album "Planet of Ice".
I think out of all Minus the Bear shows I've been too, this was the best. Dave made it the best, because Dave is fun to be in front of. He would also say some very amusing things such as "Fuck yeah, oh oh fuck yeah" and tell us that we were fine every time he moved his amp a little. His speech pattern and voice makes him sound like a man from the 1920's which in my book is THE BEST.
I was never very good at getting Minus the Bear set lists. Defiantly. NOT THIS TIME THOUGH. I was ready right before encore and right when Dave left stage, I grabbed his paper off of his effect board. I now have a Minus the Bear set list. That is my merch.
I had also video taped some songs, but Dave would kind of watch me video tape him, so I stopped because I was afraid he'd grab the phone out of my hand.
