Now, from what I can tell in America, if you drop out your fail in life, right? If you dont go onto college and get degrees you're thought of as drop outs.

Well, in Australia its different(although due to globalisation and American TV we're slowly going you way) because you can drop out in year 10(which is about Sophomore or something) you can leave school and go into a trade, like plumming and what not. Join the working class, get a traineeship or apprenticeship with a licensed tradesmen and make your way off that. no going to college, no water down education. It seems to work well here. hell, we even have Tech schools were you can go to learn your trade of choice.
