Now that Mercury's out of retrograde, I'd like to dip my nose in the following books. If you have any suggestions or additions, feel free to let me know.

1. Anam Cara, translated by John O'Donohue
2. The Secret of the Golden Flower, translated by Cary F. Baynes
3. Psychoanalytic Diagnosis: Understanding Personality Structure in the Clinical ( Read more... )

You'd do well to read A Scanner Darkly by PKD.

Why? Doesn't that get into science fiction, which I can't really stomach?

Yes, yes it does.

But you should be able to stomach it. It's very light sci-fi that details the tragedy that is addiction.

Fine. I'll pencil it in. How long is it?

Talk about some psychological thrillers...

I have a few very easy reads, but they deal with old people and Alzheimers etc.

Having lived through a relative's decline by Alzheimer's (granted, I was 3...but it was graphic and traumatic enough that I remember a lot of it), I don't really want to read about it.

I'm looking more for the psychospiritual side of things. The furthest I want to get into direct psychology is dissociative-identity 'disorder' or the various schizo types. Unless you have some good reading on Jungian psych....I find his work fascinating.

Most of the books I have are textbooks or books of case studies which are interesting, but probably not what you are looking for exactly.

I can ask my friend. She has more time to read than I do.

Yeah, I find case studies tedious. I'd rather read the theory and apply it myself.

But thanks anyway... and ask your friend if possible. :)

well...spiritual pursuit? it's sort of a toss up with this book, but you could read my FAVORITE book, if you haven't which is le comte de monte cristo by alexandre dumas. but dont' get an abridged version...the fat book is better. :D

I've seen the movie--the ten hour one, at that. With Gérard Dépardieu. That kind of ruined the story for me....

eh. screw the movie. none of the theatricals compare to the marvelous book. dumas is a literary genius.

If they made a ten-hour movie out of it, how long is the book? It's nothing against Dumas, but I don't think I could sit through 1,000 pages of reading. I top out and get impossibly bored around 300-400 unless it's MASTERFULLY written.

As far as the psychological side of things go.. you more want Transpersonal Psychology. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transpersonal_psychology.

I haven't read any books specifically on Transpersonal/Spiritual Psychology, though I did have a quick look around. I came across this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/1571743197/ref=sib_dp_pt/103-3575024-1464628#reader-link

It might be promising (despite the hideous cover) or could be full of shit, you can read an excerpt from it at the link above.

Heheh... the one field we DIDN'T cover in psych class.

And that book reminds me WAY too much of Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar.
