I’ve always lived near the sea; I guess that’s why my job suited me so well. The only thing that’s changed are the cities I’ve lived.
I was born and raised in Brighton, but more recently I’ve been living in Southampton, as most of our cruises go from there. When I was younger, I preferred being in Brighton, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve found myself favouring Southampton.
Brighton is a big place, very diverse, and good for young people if you want to go out clubbing and experience the nightlife. Because it’s so diverse, you’re not going to get judged because of how you dress, or your sexual orientation, or for just being yourself - and I think that’s one of the reasons I loved the place so much growing up.
Southampton, however, feels more like home. I’ve spent most of my working life based from there, as our training was based there, and now everyone in my crew lives there. Southampton is a lot quieter than Brighton, and while there’s still a lot going on, it’s just not as busy as Brighton is.
Southampton is more mature than Brighton, and I think that’s why it’s more like my home.
