How do those Segway's ride? I could never picture it as being stable, or easily controlled, despite what's been said...

they're actually pretty neat. They ride very smoothly to the point where once you got used to riding it, (the new ones at least that turn by tilting the handle a little) it becomes part of your body movements. But it's basically built in such a way that it works on mimicing the way you would lean to walk. They're very stable, (once you get used to it) the speed varies as to har far you're leaning forwards or backwards, but it will only let you go so far.
If they were less than $7000 i might consider getting myself one lol.
