over spring break, etc:
- wandering on ancient roman ruins, cats basking on the stone. a cat shelter was in this cave-like place & a black cat jumped on mab & wouldnt let go
- gnocchi & mozzerella & gelato
- me& mab watched men on giant unicycles juggle. on the spanish steps the street venders tried to stick plastic flowers into our hands
-in london, we ate at an indian restuarant that had trees & a waterfall inside. most of the dinner ware was in the shape of elephants & sitars played in the background... it felt just like we were in INDIA
- ricky hung out with us in the basement, playing his guitar & melodica while we watched the virgin suicides. after, we listened to a 12 girl chinese orchaestra playing strange instruments. i wanted to learn how to play the one that resembled a lyre? cos the lady playing it looked like she was on happy pills.
- we went to a dadaist exhibit which had collages & old war footage &sound clips of nonesense poetry. duchamp made me angry with his upside down urinal &the mustache he painted on the mona lisa. a bunch of pianos & xylophones& metal school alarms were place in front of the exhibit & at a specific time they all would start playing automatically, all by themselves. when it began, everyone covered their ears & it was great to watch the horrified expressions on their faces.
- visiting dickinson, i went on late night diner outtings with laura& ash& beth. the union philosophical society (the one that's against belle lettres literary society) reinacted the whiskey rebellion on a lawn in the middle of campus. they dressed up in 18th century attire & rung bells proclaiming the time& location of the rebelion. someone dressed up as george washington spoke while people with empty bottles pretended to be drunk. the carlisle news camera crew was there cos i guess nothing ever happens in carlisle? besides reinactments of random historical events.
- afternoons at home were spent downtown by the harbor. alex visited from baltimore. we had milkshakes at chick& ruth's & he scared the squirrels that lived in people's gutters. i stopped by the tea shop while mab was working& read a book on hobos. we had iced chai & coffee & visited rachel & bryan at the sandwich shop. we ran into madi who was carrying a huge picnic basket & mab lost her car keys. the police seemed confused when we explained to them that the keys had a picture dangling from them of a cartoon indie boy with dark hair named 'marten'. it ended up mab just left the keys on the driver's seat of the car. OOPS
- we blared klezmer songs down twisted honeysuckle lane & past the abandoned mental hospital. we found pipes behind a dumpster & pulled them through the chainlink fence, piling them into the trunk of our car. men in suits, talking on cell phones, looked at us suspiciously.
