Well, first dang.

One of my favorite historians died and I didn't know it. JS Holliday was a specialist on the California Gold Rush. He flipped off the numbers and details of the rush and its effect on American society and the 19th Century economy with an enthusiasm which became my model of how to get people interested in the subject. Enthusiasm is one of my favorite things to catch. Unfortunately, I seem to have a rather high resistance. :)

Are/is the person(s) local to you? Craigslist suggest meeting in person. If they are willing to use PayPal, do not ship the laptop until the payment clears. Then it is PayPals problem.

Just my 2 cents.

A bit of research shows me the "mail it to Africa" is part of a well known pattern of scams.

But my making the posting I have found a guy who knows how to fix the keyboard, so I can repost the 12" with a working keyboard - and I will specify "Local only."

You got to hear JS Holliday on our Grand Tour in 2001 - I played the tape in the van at least once. I will try to find that tape and post it somewhere for others to enjoy - he was a helluva guy and a really great teacher.
