I have a recording on cassette of an English radio show host announcing that week's top 10 requests. "And coming out of nowhere, 'Eye of the Tiger' by The Survivors."
Which is funny for a number of reasons. The rest of the list contained new wave B-sides. This song shot "out of nowhere" because it was the theme to a giant Hollywood movie (one of the Rocky sequels). But to an English DJ of the new wave rock scene, the film might have been off the radar until its main theme came storming onto his list. Much like a two-dimensional alien boy would be ignorant of the giant anvil above until it touched down on his plane.
Since so many band names (particularly new wave rock band names) began with "The", either the host or teletypist unconsciously added the common participle. But the name of the band was actually Survivor. Well, they survived 1982 all right.
