Wow, that's a good one. I saw counter-clockwise, spent a while trying to see clockwise, and couldn't. Then I went to the source page and immediately saw her rotating clockwise. I had to go back to make sure it was the same animation. Then I was stuck on clockwise.
I can get it to switch back and forth now, but only if I pause it (click on the browser title bar). While she's paused, I have to mentally reverse her on the z axis, which takes a couple seconds, and then let her go again.
Not for me, the left foot shadow still turns clockwise. The right foot shadow is not really affecting anything.
If I cut the image off below the hips, I can get some back and forth illusion like it's waving 180 deg into the picture, but that's ignoring the shadows.
And, yeah, me too. I was thinking, hey, it keeps switching for me, and then read on to see the description.
My first intuitive thought is that for me, this is being strong both on myers-briggs T and F. Being borderline means not having a strong preference of one over the other. Its additional information to see that for me, this means, at least right now, I'm pretty rapidly switching back and forth in modes. I think I'm comparing and accessing knowledge from each side.
One of the things that the wise woman I'm talking to is doing is encouraging me to consider my terror of not understanding. The constant quest for understanding means one can't just sit and observe life, and ironically, can't understand it as well. At least, that's my understanding of it ;)
Hehe, after writing that, I can only see her going counter-clockwise now... heh, this is why I decided to take a break from livejournal. Writing this style switches me into analytic, and therefore away from intuitive.
I'm totally going to get a copy of this to put on my desktop to check in with.
This is so fascinating... I was just staring at it again, and I'm totally stuck in counter-clockwise mode now... but the funny part is that I keep seeing her "switch." I'll be like "hey, she just switched!" but she's always going counter-clockwise.
I think what is happening is that I'm switching to clockwise, but as soon as I start paying attention I'm switching back to counter, so I'm not actually interpreting the clockwise motion consciously for more than a fraction of a second.
Someone else suggested the foot-looking thing when I saw this earlier today, else-Journal.
For me at first, she was always in clockwise-mode. Couldn't get her to go counter-clockwise at all. Then I carefully scrolled up so I could just see the flattened foot and worked to get that to go the other way. Weaving my body in a counter-clockwise manner (so I don't misplace the direction), I can then scroll up to see all of her and have her "still keep moving that way".
Mind, it also bugs me that since the axis of rotation isn't towards or away from the viewer, one can't really use the 'clockwise' reference (that'd just be if looking down on her or looking up from below).
yeah, i really like the sense of "mental inertia" i get turning her around in different directions -- focusing on the lowered foot, choosing a direction, and then "applying" that direction to "carry" the upraised leg and with it the rest of her body. like dancing, leading with your mental will.

Hmm.. I may have to toy around with it so there's two of these going on next to each other and see if I can get them to go opposite directions, like eggbeaters.

It's just the way she's leaning and the way she's hopping - counterclockwise makes so much sense!
Maybe if she let her hair down it would be easier.
