I had the WORST* day in the history of all days...

*What I mean is, family is the fucking challenge of our existance. I love my mom and dad to the ends of the earth and back, but the rest of the family...how can they be so horrible to each other? Why can't they step outside of their little universes for half a second and realize how patronizing they are to everyone else? I wonder if they're ( Read more... )

Fuck the fucking American Dream! It was a set up to make people crave a particular order to their famiily's life and in doing so it ravaged the humanistic ideal: to just BE. Not to pressure yourself or anyone else in your family into fitting into a box (i.e., When are you going to college? Who are you dating these days? What are you DOING WITH YOUR LIFE??? etc.) We have lost the true meaning of family. Not all of us, but as a society on the whole. It is no longer support each other no matter what, respect choices no matter what (given, there are a few exceptions to the rule: sychopathic killers, republicans, etc.), love and be loved in return. It is now, shape shape shape! Mold mold mold! Cookie cutter these kids and these nieces andthese nephews into what we wanted to be and never tried to become! Better! More! Now!
Love the lovely Flogging Molly ballad.

Don't worry, the American dream is steadily crumbling into the proverbial sea, and millions of Americans will stand dumbfounded at the loss of the idyllic comfort that once supposedly surrounded their SUV existence like a big WHITE fluffy cloud.

Most likely though, they will react in their particulary peculiar American way of over-dramatizing, glorifying themselves/their loss, blaming another nation for their blatant arrogance/stupidity, filming made-for-TV movies and writing autobiographical best-sellers.

As for the meaning of family, I suppose it depends on what family you're talking about. Maybe you and i are lucky that we have families that follow the same ideas in our own "true meaning(s) of family." It's easy to be an asshole to your family because they are forced into having a relationship with you no matter what. We forgive and forget when maybe it isn't warranted, for the sake of the greater good, the family connection.
Family embodies my love/hate relationship with humans.
