I believe in both destiny and choice.
I don't believe in destiny in the sense of "Things will turn out this way no matter what you do", but rather in a sense of "things were set in motion a long, long time ago and that rock isn't going to stop rolling".
Everything that has happened in my life has shaped me into the person I am today. I make the choices I make because of the person I am. I will react to the people I come across in life in specific ways, because of the person I am today. Thus, everything that will happen has essentially already happened. An argument that could be made against this is "Well, what if I decide one day to make a totally random choice; what if I decide to do something that goes totally against my grain?", to which I would reply: you are the sort of person who will arbitrarily choose an unusual course.
I hope everything is okay for you, Tom. You are a wonderful source of sunshine in everyone's life; I hope you have one in yours. <3
