Jesus, is everyone coming down with dependent personality disorder?

In the past few weeks I've seen Away messages and LiveJournal posts, and heard conversations all centered around the fact how person X doesn't have anyone to be with and how that makes them really sad, and how they feel the world owes them a girlfriend/boyfriend. To those people I have but one sentence:
