that american kids will be protected wherever they go, that saving the world on a whim is possible, that you can have/be/do anything/everything without having to think about consequences...
idealism is great, it really is. i'm glad he wasn't killed, & i'm glad he was brave/stupid enough to try to *do* something instead of just sitting at home buying new nikes. we don't teach them about consequence. we don't teach them about culture, or that their monolingual self-centered pampered asses are *not* revered around the world like they are at home. we "protect" them.
