Title: Before the Dawn
Pairing: Jinki x Minho
Rating: R
Summary: How do you love a person who isn't a person. How can you give someone your heart when they only want your soul.

Jinki hated the fact that he was alone once again. Jonghyun was off fawning over his new human and he hadn’t seen Minho since the boy had run away from him. The apartment was too quiet, to devoid of any type of life and it caused the vampire to become restless and temperamental. Why did Jonghyun get to spend so much time with his human and yet Minho wouldn’t have anything to do with him now? It wasn’t fair. Jonghyun had never shown interest in humans and was adamant about never falling in love with one and yet the sight of the blonde boy had sent the younger vampire fangs over heel. If Jinki hadn’t been in the same situation all his life he would have been disgusted at his companion. His fingers twitched at his sides as he stared daggers into the mirror, his own silver reflection meeting his eyes. There was a dark beast in his gaze and it troubled him that he could be falling victim to that dark part of him he had sworn locked away from his mind.

“Did you really think you’d be rid of me so easily Jinki? I’ve just been sleeping but now I’m awake and I want my turn.” His reflection spoke at him, lips curling into a sadistic smile as his fangs glistened from the bare light hanging from the roof. Jinki closed his eyes and beat the side of his head, willing himself to push that counterpart of him away before it took hold of him in any form.

“You can’t shut me out this time. Not when I know you’ve found him again. I bet he’ll be a fun toy to play around with.” The mocking tone made Jinki’s eyes snap open as he stared at his reflection, grabbing the nearest object and hurling it at the mirror, a feral snarl ripping from his throat. He stood and watched as his reflection seemed to have expected that and simply smiled in return. The vampire’s chest rose and fell, silver eyes blazing with self hatred and loathing. A single ruby tear fell from the corner of his eye as he closed his eyes and turned away, shoulders stiff as he used all of his will power to push that dark part of him away again, to strengthen the chains and toss away any memory that could give it strength once more.

“I won’t let you hurt him Onew. Never…fucking…again!” Jinki turned and looked at his reflection but only saw his mad eyes and the stain of blood against his cheek as it ran down to dangle from his chin. He was tinged by darkness but for now he was still the master of his own body. For now. But now time was truly against him in this rat race. Seungho was forever closing in on Minho to try and take out the one person that stood between him and having Jinki to himself and now even his own conscious has taken up arms against him. This was a time where he really needed someone, anyone to help set him on the right path, to try and help sort out his thoughts and problems so he could keep going and save Minho from this horrible world he had dragged him back into.

With purpose set in mind Jinki decided on the one vampire he could turn to in his time of need and turmoil. It may even prove to help solve his problem with Seungho and his inner demon all in one stroke.

“Just hope I can find him…before it’s too late.”

Seungho watched from behind half closed eyes as Taemin sparred with two other of his clan. They were a century or two old but they could hardly do anything against the newly changed vampire. His strength was outstanding and with fresh blood from his latest kill still coursing through his veins he made easy work of his elders. Seungho watched the way the clothing shifted and clung to Taemin’s thin form, feeling his loins stir with want. The boy gave himself to Seungho at the smallest sign of desire the clan leader showed. The jealousy the other vampires had towards Taemin was amusing enough but none dared to challenge him for fear of Seungho’s rage or a quick death at the changeling’s hands.

The sound of bones cracking brought Seungho’s attention back to the fight as he watched Taemin break one of the vampire’s arms and kick him down onto the ground. The second vampire had been on the ground for some time now, nursing a similar injury as he tried to set it to heal properly. Seungho stood and clapped his hands twice, bystanders coming to drag the two off so they could lick their wounds in the dark. Taemin twirled around to look at Seungho, crimson eyes shining with his victory as he came over to press his body flush against his master’s, hands running down his chest to massage the marble muscles under his touch.

“I want stronger opponents. Those two were little more than a warm up for me. Please.” Taemin gave a sultry whine, standing on his tip toes as he nibbled at Seungho’s bottom tier. Seungho smirked and gripped the boy’s neck, kissing him roughly as he thought of who would be a challenge for his newest pet. He was making quick work of his ranks and though it was sad that they fell so easily to the fledgling yet it wasn’t unexpected.

Though for now getting Taemin another sparring partner was the farthest thing from his mind. He smirked softly as he ran his hands down the boy’s back, feeling the fledgling shiver and moan at the touch, melding his body against Seungho’s more, giving in to his intentions wholly. With a wave of his hand he dismissed the vampires from the warehouse and lifted Taemin onto his hips, taking his lips with a fierce need. Taemin chuckled breathlessly against his lips, feeling his body come in contact with the couch Seungho had had dragged into the warehouse. His clothes were torn away instantly and he let out a soft whine, actually having liked those but it was no concern of Seungho’s. Taemin was used to giving into his sudden urges and needs now. Seungho wasted no time in pushing inside, listening to the painful noises of pleasure that left the boy’s lips.

Seungho closed his eyes and let his imagination supply him with the correct feel and sounds that sound be under him. The voice became deeper and more masculine as Seungho opened his eyes and stared down at Jinki, watching the way their bodies moved together. It tore at his soul how much he missed looking down into those silver eyes, listening to how he would grunt and moan with every movement. It was like his thoughts were tormenting him again with what used to be before Jinki learned of how he had been deceived and left. The threat of tears sprung to his eyes as he continued to abuse Taemin’s body, taking out his anger at his own stupidity out on the fledgling.

Taemin didn’t even let it register as he stared up at Minho’s bronzed form slamming into him. He could imagine the way his muscles would feel under his skin as he ran his fingertips along the warm flesh. It caused him to shiver and moan out with need as he pulled the boy down against him, dragging his fangs against his shoulder. His skin prickled at the noise that left Minho’s lips, biting down gently as he mouth filled with the warm blood, licking the wound to seal it as he kissed Minho roughly, passing the blood into his mouth. Their illusions continued on, Seungho making love to his lost one and Taemin begging Minho to give him more, to fill him completely.

Seungho couldn’t take much more as his seed shot deep into the other, slumping slightly as he shook himself and stood, fixing his clothes as he walked off to a deserted corner to sit in self loathing, trying to hold onto what his mind had supplied for him. Taemin lay in ecstasy, coming down off his high as he stood on wobbly feet before he stretched and walked towards one of the humans they had in the corner to keep them from hunting and drawing attention to themselves. Seungho closed his eyes as the yells rang through the emptiness, shaking his head as Taemin drunk his fill before leaving in pursuit of more clothes. The old vampire ran a hand through his long hair and stared at his reflection in a puddle of water that had come from the past storms. The reflection stared back at him with sadness, shaking his head as a hand reached out towards him.

“Let me back out Seungho. I can persuade Jinki to come back to you. You won’t get him the way you are now.” The reflection pleaded and Seungho moved a hand out towards it before he blinked and stood, kicking at the water before storming off. He would never be weak like that again. Jinki would never come back to him if he was like that again, a soft vampire who was reluctant to take life. No, he was strong and desirable as he was and that was who Jinki would return to.

A graveyard was the last place Jinki wanted to be but it was a necessity when it came to finding this certain vampire. It was somewhat disheartening to be around the dead, to see the fallen fathers and brothers, sisters and mothers lying around him forever silenced by whatever happened to them. He could almost bank that half if not more had been prone to vampire attacks of some sort. Car crashes and armed robberies weren’t the number one cause of human death; it was heartless monsters like Seungho and his clan.

The farther back into the graveyard he walked the older the tombstones began to look as he neared the stone mausoleums, reaching out a hand to run his fingers along the smooth edges as he continued his search. He knew exactly where he was going, he was one of the few vampires who knew how to find this relic. Why couldn’t this have been his maker, his master, he would have gladly served until released from the bond but no one had ever been sired by this one. It was a lifelong promise he had made and nothing would break it.

Jinki looked up at his destination, pushing the iron gate aside as he headed up the worn steps, raising his knuckles to knock before he thought better of it and simply opened the wooden door, closing it behind him. It wasn’t dark like he had expected, two torches burning on either side of a raised coffin, a single chair resting behind it. Jinki took a deep breath and cleared his throat loudly, waiting for who he was looking for to appear. A secret door behind the chair opened and a dark haired male stepped from behind it, tilting his head to the side as his black eyes bore into Jinki before a smile split his porcelain face and he swept forward, arms open to pull the silver eyed vampire into a tight hug.

“How have you been Jinki? It’s been centuries since I’ve seen you.”

Jinki nodded and succumb to the hug, returning it with gusto as he felt some of the tension sweep out of his body. It was these arms that had found him in his darkest hours and helped him put the demon Onew in his prison. It was this soft voice that had helped soothe him over the loss of Minho’s earlier reincarnations and how the last one had died by his hands, the blood forever staining his skin no matter how many times he scraped and washed them until his hands were raw.

“I need your guidance once again. Onew has broken free and I fear he will not stay quiet and let himself be forgotten to easily again. And…there’s more. Seungho is after me again and I have found…him again. He’s in danger because of Seungho and me and I just can’t sit by idly and let myself fall to pieces. Not this time. I will end this now and I will protect Minho like I have failed to do so many times over and over. Please…please help me hyung.”

The elder vampire ran his fingers down Jinki’s cheek and nodded, moving to lean against the coffin, his hands caressing the cold face of stone as he looked down at it in thought. Jinki imagined the other was looking down inside of it at his dead lover, long turned to dust and ashes from centuries of lying inside there, forever watched over by someone who could never forget the times they shared. Jinki felt his chest seize up painfully as he wondered if this would be the life he would live after Minho’s soul simply stopped existing or took on a different form. Would he too turn into this, looking over a coffin of the last human form his lifelong lover took?

“Jaejoong…” Jinki voiced the name, feeling the way it felt foreign on his tongue but it provided the expected reaction. A ripple went through the vampire as he turned and looked at Jinki, face hardening as he motioned towards the chair for Jinki to sit in. This would take some time but it was the surest way he could save Minho. He would not let either of them fall to whatever fate was set out in front of them. He had already gone against what was destined for him when he was turned and he was more than sure he could do it once again.

“This time it will be harder. Onew will be fighting with his all to get out but I think there is something we can do that will end your problems. All of them.” Jaejoong held up a hand as Jinki shifted and opened his mouth to speak, falling silent as the elder continued to talk. “If we let him out and let him fight Seungho and his clan then I believe his bloodlust will be sated. So much so that he will simply stop existing. He is the part of you that needs to feed, that needs to kill and have blood on his hands. You have denied this part of you for so long that the need has taken on its own personality. That was unwise and I should have had you do this long ago but you weren’t strong enough to control it.”

Jinki didn’t like the thought of letting Onew run wild and free but if Jaejoong felt it was wise then he wouldn’t complain or go against his wishes. He knew that Jaejoong thought hard before he spoke on such matters, the elder had gone through it all himself. Jinki glanced at the coffin, Yunho’s coffin, Jaejoong’s male lover and consort. The only person he had ever loved, so much that their souls had imprinted much like how Jinki’s and Minho’s had. Jaejoong’s counterpart had been the cause behind Yunho’s death and now he spent the rest of his eternity remembering what was and had been. It was a sad tale, one that Jinki would give his all not to become. Jaejoong had moved to stand behind Jinki, resting his hands on either side of his head as he slowly broke down the barriers he had spent so much time to put up. Jinki relaxed and let it happen, knowing that if he fought he would lose hold of himself and Onew would take over and cause more havoc than he was willing to let occur.

A shudder ran through him as part of his brain shut down and Onew took hold. There was a feeling of exhilaration and triumph before Onew quieted down and waited with anticipation. Jaejoong had struck the deal and there was only time until Onew could go on his much deserved rampage. Jinki looked up as Jaejoong nodded and patted his shoulder. Now he just needed to find Jonghyun and tell him of the plan. Jinki stood and bowed to Jaejoong, heading towards the door, feeling as if he could see the path he needed to walk in front of him. It was a relief to finally know how to deal with this problem and be done with it all.

Jaejoong watched as Jinki walked out, a sadness falling over him as the door closed. He hadn’t been completely truthful with him but perhaps that was what was needed. The old vampire rested a hand on the tomb and closed his eyes. Jinki would sacrifice anything to protect Minho, just as Jaejoong would have for Yunho but there was no happy ending at the end of the path for Jinki. He would have to learn that on his own and make his final decision on his own.

“Why does it have to be this way Yunho? Why wouldn’t you let me turn you and save you? We would have lived forever together. You promised me forever. Why did you lie?” Jaejoong shook his head and sat down, feeling as if he the weight that had left Jinki had fallen on him tenfold. The coffin offered no reply, sitting silent and cold as ever like it would until the stone eroded and all memory of Yunho’s life on this earth would be erased except for the years he had spent with Jaejoong. A single scarlet tear traced down Jaejoong’s cheek as he buried his face in his hands.

“I’m sorry Jinki. I’m so sorry.”

Minho opened his eyes and immediately felt something was wrong. He sat up and looked around, trying to figure out why he felt this way as the door flew open. Minho jumped out of bed and caught his brother as Siwon fell forward into his arms. There were deep gashes all over his body, soiling the holy smock he usually wore on these days. Minho looked around for the cause of this and felt his eyes fall on Taemin. The boy looked paler than normal, eyes blazing red as blood dripped from his lips. Siwon grabbed Minho’s shoulder and let out a long sigh, voice quiet and devoid of the usual strength and happiness his eldest brother always had.

“Run Minho…you have to get to Jinki.” Minho watched as the light slowly faded from Siwon as the holy man slumped and rolled onto the floor. Taemin walked forward slowly, tutting as he bent down and poked at the dead body.

“Shame he wasn’t as strong as I thought. Wasn’t much fun.” Taemin’s voice was cold and filled with endless evil, the sound chilling Minho’s blood as he glared and swung a fist at the boy’s cheek. The contact was hard and instantly broke his knuckles, Taemin seeming unfazed by it, laughing and standing up. “I grew tired of Seungho waiting for the perfect time. I will make the perfect time. Come. Time to be rid of Jinki so you can finally be mine.”

Minho yelled out as Taemin lifted him up, fighting with all his might to get away but it was useless. The boy was stronger than him now and there was little he could do but turn and look down at Siwon’s lifeless face. He swore he would avenge his brother if he had to die in the act.

“I will never be yours Taemin. You’re just some pathetic kid to me.”

Taemin stopped and looked at Minho, eyes boiling over with hatred as the vampire struck out and sent Minho’s body flying down the stairs to collide with the wall. The boy slumped down and watched as darkness slowly crept up into his vision. His temple throbbed as blood slowly slid down his face, trying to keep his eyes open as Taemin slowly descended on him, crouching down and tracing the tip of his tongue along the ruby line, leaning down close as he whispered into Minho’s ear.

“I will have you or you will die. Choose.”

Taemin never got to hear Minho’s answer as the boy’s eyes rolled back into his head and the lights went off.
