Eeeeee! I'm so happy you are still posting here! I love deviantart but I always forget to check on there to see if my fave peeps are posting, and tumblr is still a pet hate for me, so LJ is awesome. LJ sends me emails when my peeps post. *strokes LJ*

I did see the tentacles and the cute beefie, but I think I missed the rest. Black Cap is gorgeous and i LOVE your crayon experimentation - brill! I think I'm finding the same thing - my digital forays are improving my draughtsmanship when it comes to picking up a pencil, even though I still find it scary to use actual paper.

I'd love to see more step by step from you re: your digital process, not only because I find it fascinating to see how other people work, but because I've still got so much to learn about using PS it's ridiculous.

Anyhow, I'll stop rambling - this post is fab!

re: step-by-step

um, i dunno, my process isn't anything different from anyone else...at least i don't think it is. *scratches head*

i started using PS in 2005, and 11 years later i pretty much just use the most basic of basic functions, tbh. i still use photoshop 5 which came out in, like, 2001. XD

what specifically about PS are you curious or confused about? i'd be happy to give some pointers and/or find some quality tutorials for you. :D

oh I don't know exactly - I'm learning all the time. I'm lazy, and usually in a hurry, so that means I tend to fiddle until something looks reasonable, which isn't the best way of doing things, I know.

But one thing I can't seem to get is nice clean lines like you have - where they look printed rather than sketched. So I'm assuming there's something, some technique I'm missing. I'll use the basic brush mostly (I have a ton of lovely brushes downloaded but rarely use anything other than the basic clean edged one for drawing, and the basic fuzzy edged one for shading).

I have found some great video tutorials for stuff like refine edges and I now know how to get a drop shadow but boy, PS has SO many shortcut keys and commands and stuff, I've had to start a notebook to remind me of even the most basic things! LOL

But if you know of something that would show me how to draw those kind of lines, that would be great!

for my single image arts (not comic panels) i rarely use PS for inking. i use Paint Tool Sai (as screencapped in the WIP for bucky v. HYDRA tentacles). i run a bare bones version of it and it is so sooo great for getting nice smooth lines. it comes with a stabilizer function which you can adjust to counteract any shakiness. you could probably get a smooth line during an earthquake with that thing. <3 you can also rotate the canvas to any angle while you work (much like you would a real piece of paper if you were inking by hand). i think newer versions of PS have the ability to rotate the canvas, so maybe yours has it ( ... )

YAY to all!
I always check these just to make sure I didn't miss anything - this time I'm happy to report, I did not miss any! And I love looking at it all again anyway : )

they're showing up on LJ...eventually. :P

do you use twitter or instagram? i post my art and WIPs on those too. and they are for art posts ONLY. which means you get to skip my constant stream of yelling and crying about superheroes from my tumblr blog that way. ;)

I don't use Twitter or Instagram, but I can turn your Instagram into an RSS feed, so I may just do that! Guess I need your Instagram handle!
Oh, and do you know if any good desktop Instagram clients? I wouldn't mind having an account there myself! But I have a caveman phone *proudly!*

...

thank you for understanding my wish to focus on the art more than the weeping. X3

insta handle is luckyraeve.

twitter handle is also luckyraeve.

as for desktop clients, i dunno. i tried downloading one awhile back before i got my new phone but it wasn't compatible with my ancient computer/operating system.

looks like RSS feed is probably your best bet. :D
