Q: Can you truly know another person?
A: The short answer is that that depends on what you mean by stating that you "know someone." If you take Socrates' definition of knowing, then the answer would most definitely be a resounding NO. It would be completely impossible to know another person unless you were that person. Personally, I think that Socrates was closeminded in that aspect. I think that it is possible to know another person, but I do not think that it is possible without first knowing yourself.

Q: Can you possibly know yourself?
A: Yes.

If you feel that you don't know yourself, should you really expect yourself not to be suprised by your actions?

you can't know yourself. what is yourself? you're made up of behavioral lessons that made you who you are. are you original? probably not. but if you knew yourself, would you grow up the same if you were in a different country? if you would be different, then would knowing who you are now, actually be who you are? or would you only know the timestamp of yourself of that time? it's impossible to know who you are because of what makes people who they are. there are no constants in a person's self. they're constantly changing. and due to the ways the brain works, and sometimes doesn't work, it's impossible to predict it.

and i think that's the same as the know someone else. it's impossible to truly know someone else, as well as yourself. it just doesn't add up logically.
