Rahal: *he promise himself, inwardly, that he would not drink. He knew what he was like and Sun help him if he did something t alienate another friend. But at the same time it was despairingly rude to refuse Borus's offer wasn't it? Well, one or two sips. No more. That would serve to satisfy Borus and he'd keep his wits* Do you buy all your friends drinks on their birthdays?
Borus: *raises an eyebrow as he grins* Well, of course. That's how we all celebrate in the knighthood. Has no one bought you drinks for your birthday before?
Rahal: To be honest, I never made a big deal out of it, so no, I suppose not. I usually got something sweet, and the past few years I just haven't had time or inclination to celebrate.
Borus: Well, this year, it'll be different. *waves over the waiter and orders a couple of bottles of wine* You'll at least have one glass. It's a once a year event, after all.
Rahal: *one glass? Lord, he'd be giggling like mad* Oh, I don't know about a full glass, but as for once a year - yes, it rather is. Hard to believe I've been in Budehuc a full year.
Borus: *pours them each a glass when the waiter returns* More reason to celebrate then. Here. Tell me what you think. It's one of my favorite wines.
Rahal: *he sniffed it politely then sipped, letting it sit on his tongue. It had a rich, vivid flavor, and it made him wish he had more of a tolerance for alcohol - though wine did take longer to get him drunk on* It's very good. I can see why you like it. Kanakan make?
Borus: *pleased he liked it and nods* Yes. Vintage IS 449.
Rahal: *he blinked, staring down at the wine* The year of the Sun Rune War.....
Borus: Really? Wow, that's two years before I was born ... *takes a large sip* Geez, I keep forgetting how many people here are from various points in the past.
Rahal: And now I feel somewhat old, don't I? *he gave a light laugh* I'd have been Commander for almost two years then, when you were born, and I'm twenty-seven now.
Borus: *shakes his head with a smile* Well, I'm still older than you as I'm 32 this year. So don't feel so old yet.
Rahal: *thinks* I'd be 57 today, if I hadn't traveled through time. *grins* And I guess I shouldn't, like you said, feel to old. I can still ride Flail with the best of them, after all.
Borus: Indeed. One of my fellow Mighty Knights is 43 and he's still keeping up with the rest of us. *smirks and raises his glass* So here's a toast to another good year here at Budehuc and a even better birthday for you.
Rahal: Yes, a toast. *raises his glass and clinks with Borus's, taking a large sip and setting the glass down* Have you been doing well? Any... improvements with Lady Chris?
Borus: *sighs after he takes another sip* Having her father ... die again has been hard on her. And understandably so. It's way too soon to expect her to bounce back but in the meantime, I'm doing all I can to be there for her.
Rahal: I had forgotten he was her father. But you're a good friend, sticking by her. I'm sure she'll appreciate it, when she looks back on it.
Borus: *nods* I know she does. *finishes the rest of his glass and pours himself another one* She deserves all the happiness in the world. *another gulp of wine* How's your business coming along? Finished setting up shop yet?
Rahal: Yes, I think so. *carefully ignoring the wine glass in his hand, still half-full* I've got the station painted and I've gotten new saddlebags for carrying mail and packages. Hopefully I can finish the sign and hang it in the next few days and officially be open.
Borus: That's great news. With the holidays gradually approaching, it's actually good timing. *continues drinking his wine steadily; definitely no problem for him*
Rahal: Stragetic planning, right there. Though, I'll need to purchase a horse, I think, for the winter months. I can't take Flail out once the temperature gets to low.
Borus: Ah, right. Being cold-blooded and all. Well, maybe you could ask Kathy for some advice. After all, taking care of horses is her thing.
Rahal: It is a possibility. I wonder if I might not... rent a horse from Kathy for the winter months. I'd feel bad buying a beast I only plan to use for a few months out of the year.
Borus: Not a bad idea. *nods before raising an eyebrow at Rahal's half-FULL glass* Come on, drink up. Remember that we're celebrating.
Rahal: I... I don't handle alcohol well, Borus. *he nonetheless took a small sip to appease the other*
Borus: Ah, right, right. I'm far too used to the rest of us drinking several bottles in one night that it seems unusual to only have a single glass. Take your time.
Rahal: I'm almost afraid to drink one. You've never had the misfortune of seeing me when I get a beer or two in me.
Borus: Perhaps not. But I have seen Percival get Lady Chris' squire drunk back during the war. *shakes his head* Honestly. The boy was only 13.
Rahal: Boy probably lasted longer than I did, sad to say.
Borus: Don't say that. I don't believe it's possible, no matter how bad you say you are at holding your liquor. And there are worse things in the world, really.
Rahal: Sometimes I don't think so. *looks at the wine and sets it aside* I've gotten into questionable circumstances because of it.
Borus: We all have, I assure you. None of us have exactly made our brightest decisions while intoxicated. *pauses to consider something* Although I'm sure Lord Salome would still be able to strategize despite being drunk. If he ever gets drunk, that is ...
Rahal: *he actually laughed a bit, and then takes another sip of his glass* I'll finish this one off at least, for you, since you insist.
Borus: Good. Glad to hear it. Even if I'll look the alcoholic compared to you as I finish off the bottle.
Rahal: I think we'll be close to the same. *he laughs, more at ease now, sipping more readily from the glass* Oh, but... I should warn you - if I do get drunk, I tend to... get touchy, is the way to put it.
Borus: So does Leo. *frowns thinking about it* He tends to grab everyone into bear hugs if he's had one too many to drink. He's a big man. You don't want hugs from him.
Rahal: Oh, I don't hug people so much as I - well, Roog says I 'cling'.
Borus: *raises an amused brow* I have yet to see anyone do that, I'll admit.
Rahal: Yes, well, get me drunk and you shall, but considering you probably don't want that we can avoid it. *he finished his glass and set it aside, hiccuping once*
Borus: *the amused eyebrow remains* I suppose that's a sign you're already on your way there. No worries. If you've had enough, just say so.
Rahal: I'd rather not make a spectacle of myself in front of you, Borus. I think I'll settle for tea.
Borus: All right. Not a problem. *waves over the waiter and orders a pot of tea* Whatever you like since it is your birthday after all. *grins*
Rahal: I'm glad you at least understand. I've always been a bit scared that army men or other men in general will look down on me for not being able to hold my drink or preferring it.
Borus: *shrugs* Lady Chris isn't a heavy drinker. And neither is our comrade Roland. It would hardly be right for me to think less of anyone else who doesn't indulge too much in alcohol.
Rahal: *he smiled as the tea came, pouring himself a cup and drinking deeply* If Kathy isn't around, perhaps you could help me pick out a horse some time?
Borus: Sure, just let me know when. And if you want, you could also ask Percival who has a differing opinion on what makes for a good horse. But then again, he is the best rider out of all of us so his opinion counts the most.
Rahal: I'll keep that in mind. *he finishes his tea* And thank you for this, Borus, really. But I need to go and get Flail back to the barn and give her a wash down before it gets to dark.
Borus: It was my pleasure. Everyone deserves a treat on their birthday, after all. *smiles and finishes off his glass* I've got time still to finish off this bottle so go on and do what you need to.
Rahal: You sure? I feel bad leaving you after you're the one that brought me here as a treat.
Borus: Heh, it's quite all right. I'm sure. I might actually still be here by the time you're done so if you want, you can join me again then.
Rahal: *beams* Yes, I think I might do that if you care to wait. *he rises* I'll be back in a bit then.
Borus: *lifts his re-filled glass* Take your time. I do have this entire bottle to finish, after all. I won't be going anywhere for a bit yet.
Rahal: *he nodded and waved, heading out to gather Flail and hopefully return in time to finish the last of the wine with Borus*
