Current Thoughts - Ideals vs. Integrity

It's been 76 weeks since my last entry. Strange to think that I've left this journal alone that long. I won't burden it with recounting everything that's happened in the past 76 weeks; I only opened it up again because I wanted to get a thought down that's rolled around in my head many times over the past several years.

I must confess that while I respect the deep reflection, I think that sometimes logic is overrated. It's nice to know the short-term goals, but I think the real question is "What is most important to me?" It's not about "Why do I do the things I do" unless you feel you're doing something wrong that you've already committed yourself to and have felt confident about in the past. Call me a fantastic or a romantic (because I'm nothing close to a pragmatic or pessimist) but I cannot survive unless I know what's important to me in life, what I'm living for, and take joy in those things. I can't make any decisions or move or act without knowing that. However once I know it, it makes action a bit easier. I'm not saying I need to know the ultimate career goal or anything. I'm saying you need to know things like is helping others or civil duties or sharing knowledge or joy the driving force of my being. Perhaps that is a bigger question than "what task do I complete next and how do I do it," but I find it more effective because it has long-term ( ... )
