Beryl *nix ftw!!!

hmm lets see 11 years to catch up to Claris for Office
~3/4 years to catch up to OS-X for flashy desktop effects and finding things easily
A-lot-of-years to catch up to *nix based systems for system security and basic user security.

and yet I can get Beryl running on my GeForce 3 with a bit of patch fudging... and the MS Vista validator thingy says my computer is useless...

I miss Clarisworks, its one of the best Office suits I've ever had, it was basically Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Hyperterm, MSPaint and a vector drawing package all roled into a 20mb single executable with a directory full of templates as an optional extra.

And for the most part, it does everything that Office can.

Yeah I still haven't even bothered with Vista. At the moment all it looks to be doing is eating more of my computers resources for no additional features.. I mean sure, it does some things BETTER (I hear the search feature actually works now!) and they've made a couple things easier etc, but I still fail to see anything worth upgrading over.

My current plan? Wait for the first service pack. Computer should be due for an upgrade then anyway, and that's probably about the time I'll actually need it to run stuff I want anyway. Until then, I challenge anyone to tell me one single thing Vista can do that will actually benefit me personally...

Unfortunately Vista for me will be one of those featureless upgrades. Where I'm not upgrading because of features or increased stability or better support. Simply because application and device development will shift from XP to Vista so I will have to as well ( ... )

Exactly.. I'll move to vista when something I want requires it.. which is a poor reason to upgrade IMO.
