A few years ago, LKY was criticised for accepting a favour when purchasing a condo for his family. Under normal circumstances, if he were any "normal" person, he would have been charged for corruption.

During the Jap Occ, he helped the Jap instead of fighting with other chinese against them.

So what's my point? Is what you did in the past or as a private citizen REALLY of any concern in SIngapore politics (I speak specifically of our politics, not of popularity politics in the US)? Steve Chia is one of the best, most vocal Opp party reps we have. So he's a naked PERV. Doesn't make his contributions on freedom of speech, individual rights, citizenship, etc. any less valid and admirable.

Just because you can't find any sleeze on anyone else doesn't mean there isn't any. IN fact, i think knowing and coming forward to accept it is better than some of our politicians.

whoa...i see there's a discussion over the controversy revolving round MR. CHIA....it's sad when u realize just how pervasive and voyeuristic the media can be at times....perhaps he's just a victim of this witchhunt for moral deficiencies and maybe he's just human to have done what he did....but you have to realize that when u become a politician there is a tacit agreement that one will come under the glare of public scrutiny.....and when u're up against the "pure white" and might of the PAP.....and a conservative and unforgiving singaporean society.....u just cnt afford to get involved in the kind of controversy he is in rite nw....there is no compromise here...when u enter into singapore politics itz a constant struggle to remain alert and mayb to a certain degree "perfect"....is there even a level playing field?i dun tink so....datz y most people dun wan to enter into politics here and in general.....

but i guess the point is, even not as a politician but because he is "just human to have done what he did", still makes him a chee koh pek. heh. A pervasive media and the false "perfectness" that the public wish to force on politicians isn't much of an excuse. You're human... if you did that i'd still think you're a chee koh peh.... but since it's you, i'll buy you beer too! haha
