Music Question

I need a show tune to sing for an audition next weekend. I have a song that I usually use, but these people said to prepare two, and that one should be lighthearted or comedic. Know anything that fits the bill for a baritone?

Take a look through Gilbert & Sullivan's works. They've got something for everyone.

Try Iolanthe. The Lord Chancellor's opening song is a fun one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdY3Qp2F5BY

Sorry - Google freak am I -

Song list here:

And entire list of books with song lists here:

Not recommending you buy the book, just saying there are some good suggestions here. "Thank Heaven for Little Girls" and "Mack the Knife" jump out at me, but that's partially because I know them. this lets you look at the lists and see if there are any you know.

Break a leg!

"Razzle Dazzle" from Chicago?

Maybe there's something from Avenue Q that fits the bill?

You could do the Moulin Rouge version of "Like A Virgin"-- I could totally see you camping that up!

I think "Me and My Girl" might have some good options, though I can't remember the songs offhand.

"City of Angels" has "The Buddy System", as well as "All You Have To Do Is Wait"-- those are unlikely to be trotted out by anyone else.

There's one I just heard this week from a show called...I want to say it's "Year Five"? The song is "Schmuel" and it's quite adorable.

Hope that helps!

I bet you could do "Dancing through life" from wicked down an octave. There's also "Why the lord created men" from Scarlette Pimpernel. I think you could do an awesome rendition of "THe Girl I'm Near" from Finnian's Rainbow, probably also down an octave. It has a lot of the kind of word-play that you like. For something you've heard several times before, there' s "Sadder But Wiser Girl" from Music Man, which I can lend you on VHS. If you think you can learn a G&S patter song in a week, those are always pretty impressive.

There's somthing else tugging at the corner of my mind as something that would be perfect, and I'm just not thinking of it right now. Grr.
