I was watching the BET tribute to Prince and caught this chick's weird cross between Joe Cocker and Michael Jackson and thought, "I should check out why The Unnamed and now renamed royal would have her sing his song." Glad I did. I think that I am a new fan.

Holy, this is her music and it is Sick. I highly rec her Metropolis and Archandroid suites;yes, she calls it as it is-a concept piece. She has the energy of a thousand watt bulb.
Smart kid and thoughful about her art. Trained in theatre.
So, take one part Andre 3000,one part Joe Cocker, add a little George Clinton and Bowie, spice it up with MJ and James Brown...don't forget the Gershwin... and I think that you get Janelle Monae.

Now this is not fair. Lilith Fair in Atlanta, GA already has the Indigo Girls, Loretta Lynn, 2/3 of the Dixie Chicks, and Sarah. Janelle is playing the southern arc of Lilith including Florida and North Carolina.

Maybe when I attend in Chicago they will have some of her CD's on sale.
