You're very welcome. If you (or your friend) ever come across more substantial evidence, I'm always looking for more geeky string things to do, but until such a time, I think I'll avoid it.
Absolutely. I am to be clear about the reenactorisms I find. If there's a reenactorism that someone knows and loves, so long as they know it's not period and don't try to convince others that it's not period, I'm fine with it. Myself, though, I would rather "build fences around the Torah" and not do the things that can be misinterpreted, if I can avoid it.
Hunh, interesting! Looking on Worldcat, most of the hits that seem promising (e.g. "Kuteuchi kumihimo gihō nyūmon") are definitely Japanese-language, and unfortunately my Japanese is extremely elementary.
