You know, looking at this a little bit more, it makes me think of this exhibit at my favorite little museum back home, a bunch of homing pigeons flying over head down a small hallway, the walls painted to show a landscape with the sky filled with the flock to try to illustrate the size of the flocks before they were so descimated. There was a trigger that would turn on a sound of thousands of birds flying overhead as you entered the hallway, one of the smaller, more impressive little exhibits I had ever seen.
I think that this sculpture would invoke a similar sort of feeling, too.
Somewhere you'll likely never be in your entire life. ^^; It's at the Neville Museum (http://www.nevillepublicmuseum.org/) in Green Bay Wisconsin. It's part of the 'On the Edge of the Inland Sea' exhibit, one of the permanant exhibits. Unfortunately I dont see any pictures of it there, I'll see if there are postcards of it next time I go home. It's a wonderful little museum, used to be free to get into but they've recently started asking for 4 dollars, which I happily pay. It was one of the four museums in the country that got to get the 'Mysteries of Egypt' exhibit tour that featured a recreation of King Tut's tomb, and so many pieces of beautiful Egyptian artifacts that was going around in 1999/2001. I love my little museum. Fell in love with it when it had the animatronic dinosaur exhibit when I was like, 8, and I go there whenever Im back home to see what they have.
That is absolutely breathtaking, I wish I could see it in person. The photos really convey an effect, I just can't believe how amazingly beautifully moulded and sculpted they are! They really do look like magpies in flight.
It looks like that exceptionally hard work you put into the whole piece has paid off. It's stunning.
I don't knoooow~~~! I had 17 left over that didn't make it into the installation that I'm giving away. The ones in the piece itself are for sale (currently only $1000, cheap!!) because I don't have any place to store it. @_@ I hope somebody buys it. If not, maybe I can sell them individually on the interbutt.
The article said 3-4 pounds each for their weight. Man, it must have taken a good bit of time putting together the ceiling rig to support them all... Wish I could have seen it up in person.
