It's been a while since I studied the defamation/libel/slander torts. My understanding is that you have to make sure it's true.

Other than that... I don't know LA personal injury law so I'm not sure how much help I might be. There are a couple of Loyno alumni who are in the College of Law who should be able to help out more.
