Okay...

1950's bathroom.
Pink toilet.
Pink bathtub.
Pink sink.
Glossy black counter.

Those are the things we cannot replace at this time.

So...what goes with that, paint-color-wise?

These are GREAT links! In the first one, the fixtures look almost exactly like the ones we already have. Scary. And I think the pink-and-white tile might actually be an improvement over the mottled white/grey linoleum that's in there. Bleh.

We're on Freecycle, and I'm keeping my eyes peeled for bathroom stuff, but I don't want to ask for plumbing fixtures, as I don't know how to install them. That's the sort of thing I don't want to screw around with.

*Hugs!*

I say to hell with good taste. Paisley yellow and purple with taupe accents.
Or maybe safety orange. Oh! I know! Safety orange with PAISLEY accents!

Actually, you might not be too far off -- we've decided that we're going to see what paint is available at the Hudson Valley Materials Exchange this weekend, and who knows...we might do some kind of tie-dye/Jackson Pollack thing on the walls!

I would use a medium to dark gray, though any shade would work. You could totally go with the whole retro thing and do a modern/retro kind of look.

I would...except that I HATE retro. Passionately. Bleh.

You could contact a contractor who specializes in baths and see if he is willing to sell used white tubs/ toilets, etc. at a very inexpensive rate. Many people, when they redo their bathroom, just get all new fixtures. We kept our tub when we did ours, but some people get rid of perfectly functional tubs/ toilets because they want the 'upgrade'. Or post a wanted note to freecycle. Then you wouldn't be locked into the pink, and you also wouldn't have to spend a fortune on new fixtures.

That's an option for further down the line, though I've recently been reminded of Hudson Valley Materials Exchange, where overstock or construction extras (removed fixtures, etc.) are available for a very low price. I'll be keeping an eye out for sinks there. But it's more about actually doing the plumbing work. I'm not going to do that myself.

i feel for you! we had the same black and pink problem in 2 of our old apts. I ended up using as much white as possible because i couldn't think of any other color that wouldn't make it worse!

we also had a "pink problem" in our current upstairs bathroom. even the ceiling was pink. we did replace the sink and toilet, and got the tub glazed white, which was definitely less expensive than replacing it. just a thought for down the road.

Fixture-replacing will definitely be happening in the future, but we don't have the $$ to be able to do that yet.
