Any tips for someone like me who has aspirations of being a Bastard Operator From Hell, but has no actual certification? I'm toying with the idea of just scheduling and paying for a seat for any upcoming A+ exam, just to see how I do, and what I need to concentrate on.

I never had any kind of industry certification, but I have a degree, and degree is supposed to trump certifications except some very narrow ones.

As far as I know, A+ is more for PFY than for BOFH, however Cisco certifications (and knowledge of networking that they imply) can help.
