Also Daughter of Smoke and Bone (and its sequel Days of Blood and Starlight) by Laini Taylor is pretty swell. My sister devoured both books, and is now incredibly sad because the next book doesn't come out until April. I've only read the first one thus far (and I need to re-read it because it has been awhile and I really do need to read the sequel considering I paid money for it), but I enjoyed it as well. It's quirky but not try hard quirky, imo. And it is rather dark, a little bit Romeo and Juliet (but apparently shit gets more real than that in the second book??) but bearable R&J because ~magic~, and the magic itself is also a bit dark and cruel. So that's always nice.
Also I don't know if we have had any conversations about the most perfect book ever written aka my favorite book of all time, but if we haven't (and you haven't already read it), The Last Unicorn is perfection personified; you should read it before absolutely anything else on your list ever ( ... )
