I'd have to call you about 49.5% right. raikithemage April 29 2010, 15:55:02 UTC
Yes, not everyone who considers themselves religious is an obnoxious bastard; I think that you and Canli more than prove this. However, there is one thing you have to understand. Across all religious borders, the one group that is reviled by Muslim and Catholic, Jew and Hindu: are the atheists. There are religions that tolerated Gays, religions that tolerate child molesters (read the news), religions that tolerate murderers. Not one religion will ever stand up and officially support atheists. We are targeted by every single one of them. We scare them, so we get one of two responses. 1) Pointed hatred. 2) Attempts at conversion. Yes, there are certainly some groups that are worse than others. And no, not every religious person is like this. Honestly, I don't even think the majority of religious people are like this. But every RELIGION is. So I guess this is just me longwindedly repeating what I've always said. I don't hate the religious, I hate the religion.

1) I know full well the difference between catholics and christians. You KNOW I know the difference. I was merely making a list of examples, it was in no way meant to be exhaustive.

2) I only mentioned gays because they're a major target of most religious groups, I then branched out into some of the more abhorrent of human behavior. Yes, my structuring of those particular points could have been FAR better...but your inference was still a bit of a stretch. (And maybe a bit of a straw-man...but I don't think that was intentional.)

3) It's more of an overwhelming disdain and disappointment, and let's be honest with ourselves: Just because a religion says that its adherents SHOULDN'T judge, doesn't stop them from doing it anyway. Again, you know this just as well as I do.

Anyway, I really didn't mean to start an argument (or even a friendly debate, really). So...if this is going to continue, I want a promise of no hard feelings. I'll promise the same.
