The things you see at 4am

Aug 25, 2003 16:24

I was driving home really late last night (or really early in the morning, depending on how you look at it). I was fighting sleep on a particularly dark stretch of road when something fast and bright caught my attention. I looked up just in time for my sleepy brain to register that I was looking at a meteorite ( Read more... )

sounds like you saw a big one!

wasn't outside lookin' up at that hour, and miles and miles away, but I've seen meteors/meteorites and expect I will again. Northern lights fill me with the same kind of awe.

"these spring wild flowers, so rich and tender,
their sudden glory it will not wait
you cannot plan for their perfect moment
you must just be there, or be too late... "
going by, going by...

wow, with you, at the sight.

What an amazing experience. Maybe you could interpret it into an artwork? (That's just my way of saying I love seeing pictures of your work!) ;-)

I wish I had been there with you Rain to share in that moment. You write so realistically and beautifully that I almost WAS.

Thinking of you, and hoping you have a wonderful day...

Supposedly a friend of mine saw a meteorite on Friday, but I was too busy staring at the blanket of stars to even care.

I think we share beauty in a myriad of ways.

Lights Flashing Across a Spider Web Sky ubergoofy August 27 2003, 23:34:05 UTC
Hey you,
This reminded me of my childhood. Every August the Perseid meteor shower comes, and there was one special summer where I got to see it from a distant area, where no city lights got in the way.

My father flew hang gliders, and we'd drive north to a couple of hills outside of Flagstaff, AZ to go with him. When we spent the night, the sky was alive with color and nets of gray light--a living, pulsing thing. Throw in meteors burning through the night and it became as if the night was crying. All those fiery tears...

*sigh*

Anyway, beautiful post. Betcha I can guess what YOU were doing out so late... *big grin*

I never did get to say how beautiful your words are: the sky was alive with color and nets of gray light--a living, pulsing thing. Throw in meteors burning through the night and it became as if the night was crying. All those fiery tears...

Your writing always get into the nooks and crannies of my mind. I'm very glad to have the privilege of knowing someone who can write about such beauty.

Yes, I was out late...but not doing what you thought I should have been doing ;).
