Journaling daily in a paper journal is definitely appealing, so I've picked out my journal and want to start NOW. Okay, I cheated and started already ;).
And my best friend got me a high-quality visual journal for Xmas (and started it off) so, dammit, I have NO excuse but to visual journal for this upcoming year.
It's a high-quality art sketchbook and he started it off with the first picture of us at an awesome German restaurant in the city... so that means I even get to design the cover...
I know, it will be SO much fun! And he wants to see progress ;D
See, that's perfect! If he wants to see progress, then you have a built-in reason to keep up with it. Want me to ask you about it too here and there? ;)
That looks terrific so far. How do you like using the pastels? I have a visual journal I tinker with now and then and I've avoided breaking out the pastels because I hate their chalky feel in my hand and I thought for sure it would produce a lot of dust and smearing on pages that I tend to handle a lot. I really like using watercolors, but that tends to really destroy the paper. I might have to bite the bullet eventually and get one of those journals with watercolor paper in them.
I signed on for the project too, but I'm not really loving that community right now. It's way too busy and I asked a question there and I got the feeling no one actually *read* it, they just made unhelpful suggestions or assumed the photo I posted was of my journal when I clearly spelled out that it wasn't. It seems like it's a lot of people that are all like "oooh journals, cool" and they are going to forget them after a week. I can't wait for those people to abandon the community so the real journalers can take over.
Pastels are my love...soft ones and oil ones. But, they are smeary to use and dusty. However, you can't beat them for vibrancy of color plus texture. I've tried fixative on them, which will make them stay put, but it dulls the chroma of the pastels. So, I've dealt with just have them smear a bit, or sometimes I slip a bit of tracing paper or glassine in between pages.
I hear you about the new community. I'll have to go and look for your post. I do think the absurd number of posts will die down after another 3 weeks or so ;).
I do use watercolors here and there, but yes, it does warp the paper. How about just making your own journal with watercolor paper? That has to be way cheaper. That's what I'm planning to do one of these days is bind my own journal. I've got everything here somewhere.
Hey, I did find out that I have an alt on Feathermoon from ages ago. I'm tempted to play WoW today, but if I do, I will more than likely not work on my painting.
Ooo...there you are! Your calligraphy is lovelier than mine :P. I love looking at your art. Don't worry about joining or not joining that group, you're doing great :).
I'll be posting more often. I finally have everything working properly again...the PC, the camera and the uploading software.
*LOL* I thought you meant the calligraphy group we talked about a long time ago. I didn't realize you meant the new journaling everyday group! I know it's going to be hard for me to keep up, but we'll see what happens.
