Possibilities...

The preliminary stages of painting and moving elements around in a page is one of the best parts of working on a visual journal. At this point, there are so many possibilities and thoughts are just whizzing around in your head, clamoring for attention. Sometimes I plan ahead of time and sometimes I don't. This one was one of the unplanned ones ( Read more... )

This is just playing around to see what comes out. A lot of calligraphers like making these calligraphic strokes. Sometimes it's called "greeking". To do greeking, it helps to use whole arm movements. When we first started this, the instructor actually had us do relaxing meditation before we do it. That helps a lot. Standing also helps. It's harder to be stiff when you are standing and moving your whole arm.

Let me know if it helps you. :D

I usually use ink, yes. The color has to flow quickly. For this exercise I used a calligraphy type of pen. You can also use paintbrushes. I do greeking with everything...regular pens, markers, pastel sticks, calligraphy pens...anything! :)

Hi Rain :)
Did you create these pages then before you had entries to go in them? Does that make sense? Like you were just doing them, and then you'd fill it up with written journalling of your day and what not?
its interesting. i always just wait to see how im feeling at the time of the entry. its interesting to me that they might be pre-prepared.

Hiya Rhi! :)
Yes, I painted these before I did my entries. I try painting the day before just for drying time. I'm very impatient when it comes to letting things dry. For these two pages, the colors weren't planned out ahead of time. I sort of just picked one and squeezed it out.

The bad thing about prepainting sometimes is that maybe I don't want to use a certain color. I've been known to skip pages just to work on the color I like for that day. *LOL*

thats what i was thinking! sometimes i just don't want to work in pink ;o) its always fun to paint tho to be fair, so even if you dont use the pages for a couple of weeks at least you've got them there!

That's gorgeous, I love the calligraphy! "Greeking" sounds like fun, I might have to try that one day...

Do you do calligraphy too? Post your greeking if you get around to doing it :).

I don't do proper calligraphy, but I like to use my handwriting in stuff. Looking at your journal pages makes me want to learn though...
