Baby mice without their mothers pretty much have a 0 chance of survival. You shouldn't feel bad about them dying at all. Some wild mice once made a home behind one of our shelves and there were 2 adult mice and a group of babies. When we found them we had to get them out but we knew that even if we took the parents outside and then took the babies out... it still wouldn't work because once you agitate the babies and the mother then the mother will basically abandon her children.
But your story of how you held the last baby is so sad... I used to have a mouse and I remember when she died she had hopped in her food trough/bowl thing as if to get warm and she was shivering and in the last few days her fur had started to thin out. It was horrible...
after some research on the net, i found out that its extremely rare that humans can raise rodents on their own, especially if they're only a few days old.
in the end, i guess it's just nature. I already tried my best.
