Subject: Tonks is called upon by SHIELD to join the Avengers Initiative- a last resort now that the team in New York battling the Chitauri are showing signs of defeat.

Warnings/Notes: Yeah, I put Tonks in everything, im sorry. This sprung from an AU crossover I was writing, a Tonks/Tony Stark fic. I tweaked it a bit and this happened, although there's not really any shipping in this mix. Also, spoilers for The Avengers if you havent seen that yet.
nb. HP timeline moved forward 10 years to fit. (ie. battle of Hogwarts in '08, not '98.)

Subject Description:The Avengers is about a group of heroes from varying backgrounds and of varying kickass skills brought together to defeat the Demi-god Loki and his army who are attacking NY.
Tonks from the Harry Potter series is a kick-ass Auror Metamorphmagus-she can change her appearance at will- who, in this version, survived the battle of Hogwarts (although her husband did not) and is now one of the top Aurors at the ministry. (An auror is a dark wizard catcher.)Kicking butt is in her job description.
Fury was assessing her through the screen. Weighing his options in silence. After a minute, he sighed. "We may not understand how you do what you do, and perhaps it's better if we dont. But we're in a dire situation here, Minister. We need all the help we can get."
Tonks glanced to her left, where Kingsley stood in silence. The minister was a man of few words; he merely nodded.
She turned back to the screen. "I'm on my way."
Fallen City (Two Steps from Hell)

This wasn't the New York she had seen in pictures, read about, and dreamed of visiting. This city was ruined, a wreck, a shadow of its former greatness. New York had fallen. And now she would throw herself among the ruins, to save the Avengers, and to save what remained of the city.

Bodies littered the streets, tossed aside like rag dolls. The city was far from silent- she could hear distant screaming, wailing alarms, and on all sides, gunfire. Above the city, creatures still spilled from the giant door that lead into deep space. The rumble of thunder and the crackle of lightning drew her attention. Taking a breath, she ran towards it.

He was injured, badly. Blood seeped through his star spangled suit, and he was coughing it up into his gloved hand. Tonks looked to Thor, lost. She'd dealt with death before, lost people she loved- father, husband, son, friends. Rodger's super strength wasnt worth a damn now. But she couldnt lose him, not when so much depended on them. She gripped her wand tighter.
"Help me get him inside somewhere! Now!"

"We dont need your help." Stark said shortly, Cradling Steve's head as best he could through his suit. She scoffed.
"Clearly not. Let's not mention that if it wasnt for me, your friend would be dead right now. Forget it, I wont even try to save any more of you. But there's a whole city out there that needs saving, and im not about to turn away from that because some rich kid in a suit tells me to. I've seen more battles than you'll ever see, so shut up and let me do my job."
Stark's face was furious. "It's MY job."
She turned back in the doorway. "Then do it." She walked back into the cold, wand at the ready.

Stark turned up out of nowhere, his suit glowing in the evening sun as he landed beside her. "This is my city." he told her. "I grew up here, and I'll be damned if some alien scum is gonna take it off me. Its my job to defend her... but i'd like your help."
"Finally, some humility. Nice change, Stark."
"Dont get used to it. And when- if, if I die- dont you tell anyone." He ran off the balcony, soaring upwards, a lone figure against the oncoming horde.

"I cant keep going like this." Natasha leaned against the cool wall, wiping blood from the cut above her eyes before turning to reload her gun. "There has to be another way to end this."
There was no one else around to help them. They were alone, and almost surrounded.
"Lets find it then! A new plan, from scratch." Tonks replied.
Natasha looked around, her eyes focusing on Stark Tower. "The door. If we can close the door, the least we can do is stop more from getting through. How hard could that be?"
"Do it. Go, ill cover you."

Natasha ran, and Tonks wheeled out to face the Chitauri. She had magic, she reminded herself. Their guns were advanced, but they were still only guns. She could do this. She wasnt going to die. Not today.

They didnt trust her. they didnt trust magic. That was why she'd only been drafted now. She was one of the ministry's top aurors; she'd survived the battle of Hogwarts. And she would show them that she was worth a place on this team. She was an asset; not something to be feared. She would survive, and she would prover herself, to Nick Fury, to everyone.

Somehow, she'd gotten cornered. The allyway was narrow, and the Chitauri were advancing. She was tired, exhausted, covered in dirt and dust. Her hands were sweaty, and she fumbled with her wand.
There were too many of them. She knew she couldnt fight them all off. This was it. She would take as many down with her as she could.
A streak of red and gold flew above her, and she called out. The moment of distraction was all the Chitauri needed.

All she could hear was the thumping of her own heart, and the slight whistle of the wind as it blew past her; it was only then that she noticed the cold metal arms around her, carrying her through the air.

"You'll be fine," Stark assured her. "Head woulds always bleed a lot. But we did it. Closed the door. They all just... stopped." He looked outside, over the ruins of the city. "Not without cost though," he muttered to himself.
