get your girl [a faberry text-adventure!]

Feb 11, 2011 18:55

So, as a retro gamer interested in programming, I wanted to experiment with a text-based adventure game. And what better way to do that than with a interactive fanfic? I agree, there isn't one. So if you want to give it a try, then I've put the download link below. It's 100% virus free and the installation is pretty much done in two clicks ( Read more... )

Um... this is me being an idiot, but is it possible that - perhaps - in future versions of the game the instructions could be clearer?

Spoilers: It's taken me a few attempts to work it out, but I finally worked out how to use the shower. Perhaps you could make it clear that the phrase used in the statement is the one which should be used in the command (or, at least that's what I can tell from the one action I have managed to perform. After being told that showers don't talk, being called Juno and other unhelpful remarks (which I suppose are supposed to be humourous). But, I did work it out after a while.

Just thought I would give in my two pence on how to make your game compatible for morons. :P

Also, this is probably me being stupid again, but if the Gymnasium is on the east of the corridor, why must I go (south then) west to get to it. It's kind of frustrating. Heh. But, I WILL work my way around it. :D ( ... )

Oh, and btw, I did get further into the game by the end of the comment, I wasn't just judging it one one action. :P

It's not you being an idiot at all! It's my first attempt at this kind of thing, so I always think I'm making it obvious and then it's not. xD
The east thing is just me being a continuity failure - I fixed it in one place, and then obviously not in another. D:
I did bold the phrases that I thought were a bit odd though - the script will only take such specific wordings, which is a bit annoying and something I'm hoping to work around. So if you see something in bold, it means that that is the exact wording necessary to complete the action.
I'm glad you think it's worthwhile though. :'D It's quite popular in Harry Potter fandom, and I'm such a loser I felt compelled to bring it to this one.

*mumble mumble* I know you bolded the commands. :P But, I didn't read it as anything other than a suggestion. At least now I know better. XD

Are you sure the codes have to be entered exactly, 'cause either we've both typo'd Santana's name or there is some leeway.

Oh, and for consistancy, you might want to highlight the entire phrase rather than just one word:
open your locker. There's a couple of other ones, too. Admittedly, that's me being picky. Or, perhaps, as current slang might have it 'extra'.

I don't think it's looserish at all, then again, I'm not exactly the coolest person. :P

I've never seen this in HP. Why have I never seen this game? :/ How odd. ^_^

Gutted. D:
And I can tell, because you are the only person I know who caps lock shouts when I don't update or do something otherwise annoying.

Ahh I've never heard of this before, but I really like it! Unfortunately, I'm stuck after (spoilers) getting the ticket from Coach Beiste and getting Santana to break into Rachel's locker. I've tried going in every direction, but can't find anything new? I'm probably just missing something. Help? :)

You've practically beaten it!
Just head out to the football field from the locker room. c: I should have made it clearer that your mini-quest was done.

Glad you enjoyed. c:
I'll definitely do another one, with a longer plot (the games are saveable, I'm not trying to steal a huge chunk of your life. xD)

I don't have an *official* walkthrough, but hey, let's call this comment a walkthrough. :'D
Spoilers: It sounds to me like you're picking the wrong ticket. If you look at the pictures in your locker, that'll tell you the right seat. And if it's not that, then you'll need to tell me exactly where you are. c:

Is this a windows only thing? If so, sadface.

I honestly have no idea. I use Windows, and the program I used to make the script is on here, but it might work on Linux/Mac.
If you download it, you'll know more than me. :P

Aw, thought this might be relevant to jacketweather and all non-Windows user, the program format is .exe and I doubt it's playable on Macs, boo! It sounded so interesting too!

I'll see if there's an option to save as whatever alternative to .exe that Mac uses, but otherwise there's no Faberry game for Mac users. :c
Unless you run wine or something, according to my Mac-buddy, but I'm not going to pretend to know a thing about that.
