Seriously, I think Christians like this give the good ones a bad name. I like how you mentioned that God created you in his image (something to that extent). Absolutely. Way to go!

Vanilla sounded like most Christian people I've spoken to (not all), where one statement is followed by another that directly contradicts it: "God will have his revenge" followed by "that is love for some one who is lost." But if you think about it that's just following the tradition of the Bible, a book written with many contradicting statements, where god says love in one end and in the other you can read about how he wiped out an entire population or killed a bunch of babies. And it is also true when you say that Christians shut down, it's happened to me too, where all they do is lay Bible clichés on top of you to avoid arguing. Either way, you have something bigger than god's love, and that's the love and support of non-believers who love you just the way you are and don't want you to change.

Oh yeah, and people are right when they say god hates gay people, just read the beginning of Romans. It made me sick.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees the Bible as a great story written from the accounts of several imperfect people in a very different time. Some of the ideas behind it are great and some are arcaic. I don't think it was written to be the laws of life, I think it was written to share the thoughts and experiences of the authors. It is a good tool to be used to help people think for themselves, to challenge 'the system' in a respectful way if you think it is wrong, to learn from people and society, and also to teach them, to grow and evolve as a person and as a society. So far I've learned that few things in life are black and white, and those that are, are the easy things. The important thing is to figure out how to learn and understand all the gray matter in between, which takes a lifetime (or maybe longer, haven't come to that point yet). In the meantime, maybe we shouldn't take everything so literally. BTW, nice debate skills!

One more idea: If God created man in his image, and man is fallible, then, potentially, God is fallible too. For example: the armadillo, that was on purpose?
