Summary: For over 5 years, she watched the people walking in and out the Starbucks from across the street. Not knowing, that all this time she had been watched too.
A/N: As lame as I am, I've written this because today (the 18th) is exactly 5 years ago since I stumbled upon Yabu.

Sitting on a wall directly located on the opposite of the Starbucks coffee shop, she watched the people walking in and out. Using her ripped jeans to wipe her sweaty palms clean, her gaze was most fixed on the female costumers of the widely known coffee retailer.

There was some sort of air that came from the girls that stumbled out of the store. From their painful looking 4 inch heels, to the expensive designer bag they carried with them on their arm.

Each and every one of them walked out with a large cup of coffee held up high, the prestigious Starbucks logo facing the crowd. It was an image, a show-off.

Based on height, weight, fashion and facial expression she tried to guess what the girls had ordered the employees to hide in their cups.

She imagined their voices as they ordered.

“A Grande Caffé Misto, please. No cream.”

Sipping her own bottle of coke, she watched how girls walked away and feared they would break their ankles on the high heels that grazed their feet.

She looked down eying her own worn out sneakers. One thing to care about less.

She shuffled around on her place. The particular spot almost had her name written on it. After all, it wasn’t the first time she had taken her position in front of the coffee shop. It wouldn’t be the last time either.

Ever since it got there, about 5 years ago, she had been fascinated by the people that walked in and out. It was as if the coffee they bought made them more confident. While she herself was sure it just made them spend a lot of money on something that could be bought anywhere else for a cheaper price.

She shook her head and continued watching the people that walked in and out. Even after such a long time, she had always watched the store from the outside, not thinking of stepping in and mingling with the people that ran in and out with cup full of hot, or even cold beverages. She was sure she would never fit in.

“You know, it has been 5 years, maybe you should just get a cup for yourself.”

She looked up. Her blue eyes fixed on the black shirt with the green logo.

"How do you-"

The boy laughed, just offered her a cup of hot beverage as he dropped his lanky body next to hers.

"Exactly 5 years ago you sat here for the first time. I saw you from where I was standing and waited for you to enter the shop. You never did. For over 5 years you stopped by almost every day, and sat down here. All this time, I have been wondering... How you'd be like, what your voice would be like and whether you would come back after your first cup of coffee."

Confused, she stared at the young man. His eyes wrinkled in a shy smile as he scratched the back of his head, forcing the cup into her hands.

"I told myself that if you hadn't dropped by, on our store's 5th years anniversary, I'd bring you some coffee, so..." his voice trailed off a little bit as he looked away, trying to hide the obvious shame on his face, "here I am."

Her hands warped themselves around the paper cup in her hands, feeling the hot inside almost burning against her skin. He had been watching her.

For a brief moment she felt like she had to be embarrassed or at least offended by this, but that would be very hypocritical coming from her. Instead, she decided to make a compromise by taking a small sip, her first one, of the coffee he had brought along.

The bitter beverage spread in her mouth and silently she told herself it would have tasted better with just a tiny dash of sugar, though the sweetness of the caramel that was already mixed with it made up for a lot.

She bit her lower lip, still not able to directly look at the young male next to her. "It tastes nice... Thank you."

"Your voice is the same as I imagined it to be," he replied.

She blushed. He laughed.

"So..." He said.

She smiled, "I guess I'll come back."

He blinked and she nodded towards the cup in her hand, "The coffee, I like it. I'll come back for another cup."

That being said, his eyes lit up, forcing the smile on her face to grow wider.

"But only if you serve me- Err..."

"Kouta, Yabu Kouta."

"Yoshiro Hikari, nice to meet you, Yabu-kun."

"Nice to finally meet you too," he beamed at her, "Hikari-chan."

Omake:

"Next call! Grande Caramel Frappochino!"

From outside the store she could hear the familiar orders being buzzed around by busy employees who tried to take care of everything as soon as possible.

"You know, you've been standing here for over 5 minutes, you can get a cup for yourself, you know."

She smiled as she teasingly pushed her fiancé to the side, "that lame opening only worked 5 years ago."

"And look where it has gotten me," he laughed, shuffling closer so he could take a hold of her hand.

She laughed it off, allowing him to play with the ring on her finger. It had been 5 years since she last had spend time watching the daily routine in the busy coffee shop, and became a part of it. It had been 5 years since the particular boy that now dragged her around as if she were his own personal flavor of coffee had given her her first cup of Starbucks coffee.

And it had been 5 years, since she along with that particular cup of coffee, he had also given her his heart.
