You might want to check out ljbahai - it's a community of Baha'is and those interested in it. Lots of questions and other information is shared there. And I think there are a whole bunch of people who live in IL who are on LJBaha'i too :)

And I know there are a great number of Buddhist communities too on LJ. If you like doing your exploring online, I do!
